
The former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that “favouritism” permeates Pakistani judicial selections and has asked for a constitutional revision to ensure transparency and merit.
The existing system of judicial selections, according to Ashraf, a prominent official of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), is “totally opaque” and frequently selects judges based on their political connections or close personal relationships to the ruling class.
He declared, “This is a significant issue that requires attention. “The Constitution needs to be amended to establish a more open and merit-based system for judicial appointments.”
